My approach to painting and drawing stems from a deep reverence for nature and the environment combined with a love of adventure, exploring the unknown, and immersing myself in the creative process.  In the past two years, my landscape painting has included the mountains of Colorado, the rocky canyons of the Southwest, and the California wine country and coast.  I’ve revisited the art of still life and done many studies of fruit, flowers, sculpture, and other objects.  I’ve done many paintings of my dogs and other animals.  Finally, I’ve continued my figurative drawings and paintings working from a live model.  In addition to oil painting and watercolor, I also now work with encaustic (beeswax with resin and pigment).

The focus of my work is to capture the beauty, power, and mystery of the subject, whether it is a particular landscape, a tiny flower, an animal, or the human figure.  I love to paint en plein air, or outside on location, where the changing light presents a constant challenge.  My studio paintings are based on photographs that I take.
I love creating dramatic compositions, and working with intense color and interesting textures.  Regardless of what I paint, an intimate connection with the subject develops and is forever imprinted upon my memory.

I often have paintings in exhibits across the country.  I was the founder and producer of the Art for America Benefit at Clos Pegase Winery in which nearly 100 Bay area artists donated paintings to help the victims of 9/11 in New York.
